1958 Triumph TR3A
Commission #: TS25264L
Manufactured: December 1957
Owned since: January 1996
Status: Almost daily driver
Car is a strong daily driver with it's share of problems. I was not comfortable in doing the body work so I took it to a local shop who came highly recommended. Unfortunately, they didn't do the prep work as they said they would. It has some signs of rust coming back at the outer sills and lower doglegs. I'll eventually have to deal with that (probably this summer).
Interior was refurbished using Roadster Factory kits and most of the rubber and chrome was removed, replaced, or at least cleaned up as best as possible.
Reason for being: My first car was a 1959 TR3A that I bought 6 months before I graduated from high school. (see photo #2 at right) I had that car until summer of 1971 when it was totaled in an accident with a greyhound bus. Luckily, it was parked at the time and I was not near. I had stopped at a hardware store to get some baling wire to fasten the muffler to the chassis and while inside, the bus lost control as it went around a corner. I came out to find the buses rear wheels sitting in the driver's seat.
I bought a 196? GT6 with the insurance money but had major trouble with the transmission and rear-end. Sold it in about 8 months and bought a 1951 MG TD. Eventually, I sold the TD to return to college in 1974.
